Alaska Alert

Dear Friends,

Alaska is celebrating its 50th Anniversary of becoming a State. One of the things that many of us are proud of in Alaska is that we have no death penalty (in that, we are simply in tune with civilized governments all over the globe). But that may soon change. Incoming State House Speaker Chenault has pre-filed a death penalty bill, and it is being enthusiastically backed by Governor Palin.

This morning’s Juneau Empire has the story, along with the online poll question: “Would you like to see Alaska reinstate the death penalty?” If you believe, as I do, that the answer should be “NO,” please take a moment to vote. The URL is here and the question can be found at the very bottom of this linked page. After you vote, please spread the word. If there is sufficient public opposition, expressed early, this terrible idea may die early; otherwise, brace yourselves ‘cause it will be a hard struggle.

Peace,

Bill Pelke

PS from Connie: As of EST 4 PM Jan 12 09, We're winning for abolition! But please take no chances and be sure to vote 'NO!'
