More on the New Mexico Senate Vote to repeal the death penalty and replace it with a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole which was sent to Gov. Bill Richardson for his signature.
After the vote in the Senate on the death penalty repeal, Gov. Bill Richardson issued the following statement, "This is an extremely difficult issue that deserved the serious and thoughtful debate it received in the Legislature. I have met with many people and will continue to consider all sides of the issue before making a decision."
As mentioned on this blog earlier, The NM Governor's Office is asking for public input on the issue. People can call 505-476-2225 or e-mail the governor through his Web site Click on "Have an Opinion?" to send him an email. (See the link to website at NCADP blog)
Richardson will make a decision sometime this week on whether he will sign the bill and abolish the death penalty in New Mexico.
Please call his office or email him and urge him to sign the abolition bill
So far, calls and emails to the governor's office are 3-1 in favor of repealing the death penalty.
